Article:
TOYOTA (Kyodo) -- Toyota Motor Corp. plans to increase its global output to a record high of around 9.2 million vehicles in 2021 as sales have been recovering from the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic, sources familiar with the matter said Wednesday.
The target is higher than the current record of 9.05 million units in 2019 before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, marking a roughly 20 percent increase from 2020.
Just like other automakers, Toyota was hit by the pandemic. But the impact was less severe than its rivals, helping Toyota group reclaim the crown as the world's top-selling carmaker in 2020.
Ideas:
For whatever reason maybe marketing, name brand, financing etc. Toyota seemed to do a little better than some to other car companies.
There could be many reasons Toyota weathered the pandemic better than some.
But as the pandemic continues can Toyota continue to keep its # 1 position for fiscal 2021?
Perhaps its important to remember that the present affects the future. So whatever Toyota was doing before the pandemic might have helped it to a little better than some other companies.
Article:
Toyota's global output in 2020 fell by half from a year ago in April due to the pandemic that led to hard lockdowns in some countries and reduced activity.
The Japanese automaker saw a strong recovery in demand in Chinese and North American markets in late 2020.
Toyota plans to produce about 3.2 million vehicles in Japan, up from 2.92 million in 2020, according to the sources.
Ideas:
Most companies had no control over the conditions globally and as such just try to minimize the what was happening at the time.
Of course the strong in demand in the two largest economies in the world was a boost to Toyota and maybe most carmakers.
And perhaps consumers, who might have wanted to buy a car in the spring of 2020 waited to buy later because of the pandemic etc.
And then in the summer and fall they could wait no longer so there was a surge in late summer and early fall in car purchases.
Its interesting to see how many of the planned 3.2 million cars will be sold in Japan and how many will be shipped globally in the future.
Article:
Toyota's plan to increase global output will impact parts companies and the broader manufacturing sector given that automakers form the backbone of the export-reliant Japanese economy.
Still, a global shortage of semiconductors is a concern for manufacturers as some automakers have already been forced to cut production.
Ideas:
The number of companies involved in the production of cars is large for an economy and can only be a positive factor if Toyota plans to increase overall production in Japan.
Its like the construction and housing industries. There are many so many companies involved that its has a large impact on the economy.
The global shortage of semiconductors is real and a major challenge.
Recently Japan has asked a Taiwan company for help related the the semiconductor challenge.
Samsung, in Korea, was part of a discussion in the US when the US president had a meeting of semiconductor companies about the global shortage.
Have a nice day and be safe!
