I'm sure from day one of the virus outbreak the Tokyo Olympic 2020 committee has been worried about this situation. No doubt, even now, if the virus is contained and all turns out well there is going to be some downside to the number or tourists etc. coming to Japan.
But if this gets worse and it can't be contained in time the fallout could be even worse. Tourists and Olympic fans or whatever you want to call them might begin to think twice about even coming to Japan, especially if there are virus that continue in Japan.
Even now the fallout is having some effects on businesses in Japan, and it could get worse. Kind of like a "multiplier effect" in that as the news continues to get worse tourist sentiment will continue to decrease, or get worse or multiply over time.
At some point it might reach its limit or peak and then begin to decrease. But if the virus situation is not solved soon enough the decrease in the multiplier effect might not be in time for the full potential of the Olympic tourists who planned to come to Tokyo and Japan.
Also coming up the 2020 Tokyo Marathon in March. There might be 38,000+ participants on March 1. If the virus situation continues to worsen, even this event might be affect.
Lets continue to watch and see how the Japanese government works to solve these situations.
